The illustration and pattern you see on all of my sculptures, dioramas and jewellery begin life as finely detailed gouache paintings in my sketchbooks. I love using gouache paint to create these intricate and highly colourful pictures and in 1999 I discovered a way of printing them directly onto metal. The processes I use to create a piece of work are time consuming, but I enjoy experimenting with colour and its vibrancy when printed onto a metal surface. The original illustrations therefore are such an important part of my work that I have presented a selection of them below.
